Story
On Tuesday, February 3rd at approximately at 1:20 a.m., the Indian River, Lewes, Millsboro and Rehoboth Beach fire companies were alerted for a reported working structure fire on John J. Williams Highway in the area of Legion Road. Upon arrival of our Duty Officer, Captain Jason M. Faulkner Sr., it was determined to have a modified manufactured home with heavy smoke showing from the exterior of the residence. Firefighters entered the structure and encountered heavy fire conditions. Two fire suppression attack lines were placed in service to contain and control the fiery condition. Firefighters from the Millsboro (Station #83) were assigned to assist with ventilation efforts, while firefighting crews from Lewes (Station #82) and Rehoboth Beach (Station #86) were assigned to assist with additional fire suppression initiatives and coordinate overhaul and scene preservation objectives. No residential occupants were home at the time of the incident. There were no firefighter or civilian injuries. The Georgetown Fire Company (Station #77) was alerted to provide district coverage for Indian River’s territory for the duration of the incident. This incident is under investigation by the Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office. John J. Williams Highway was closed for the duration of this incident and traffic was detoured via Mount Joy Road, Cannon Road and Indian Mission roads were applicable. The estimated personnel costs (26 members @ Delaware Minimum Wage Rate plus social security costs) and equipment response costs (flat billing rate as determined by FEMA) for this residential structure fire incident are estimated to be $1,399.31 for the incident.
