Saturday – January 31, 2009 The Indian River Volunteer Fire Company is saddened by the loss of three (3) volunteers during the month of January, 2009. These volunteers have devoted many hours and years of dedicated and diligent service to our community and the volunteer fire service within the State of Delaware. Charter Member John “Jack” Wilkins passed away on Thursday, January 15th. Jack Wilkins was a Charter Member of the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company and actively participated in the creation and organizing of this volunteer service entity. Jack continued his volunteerism and participated with the Georgetown American Legion Post #8 in Georgetown, Delaware. Leonard Kozarski was a new recruit to the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company and was ecstatic about the potential to become a fire policemen within the our organization. Lenny was actively involved with the Oak Orchard – Riverdale American Legion Post #28 where he held of the position of Commander for the Sons of the American Legion Chapter. A memorial service is planned for Sunday, February 8, 2009 at the American Legion Post #28. Services will commence at 11 a.m. at the American Legion Post #28 located on John J. Williams Highway (State Route #24). Moore passed away on Friday, January 30th. Beatrice Moore was a Life Member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company and actively participated in the operations of this organization. Bea served as Vice President for 3 terms; Assistant Secretary for 2 terms; Assistant Treasurer for 2 terms; and various other committees for an additional 7 terms. Bea devoted many hours making hand-made Easter candy during many holiday seasons; was instrumental with the establishment of the Ladies Auxiliary Sunday Breakfast Initiatives; and participated in many other company functions. Bea was awarded Life Membership in May, 1986. Funeral Services for Bea will be on Friday, February 6, 2009. Additional information and details will follow.
