Sunday February, 1 2009 @ 14:32:50 Nature: Brush Fire Location: County Bank 80 Address: In the area of Long Neck Rd & School Ln Millsboro, DE 19966 Mid-afternoon on Sunday, February 1st, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a brush fire in the area of School Lane and Long Neck Road. It was reported that a small brush fire ignited causing a heavy smoke condition and melting some of the white PVC fencing around the Baywood Greens Golf Course. Units responding to the incident immediately identified an area approximately 10 foot by 20 foot of burning and smoldering pine needles. This fire did briefly extend beyond these boundaries but was quickly contained by the responding emergency response personnel. A segment of traffic along Long Neck was rerouted for the duration of this incident. The incident is under investigation. A minimal amount of forestry hose was damaged as a result of coming in immediate contact with the burning debris. The estimated personnel costs (30 members @ Delaware Minimum Wage Rate plus social security costs) and equipment response costs (flat billing rate as determined by FEMA) for this brush fire incident are estimated to be $453.93 for the incident. The incident response was thirty (30) members for 40 minutes in-service.
