Nature: Vehicle Accident Possibly Serious

Location: 24179 Indian Mission Rd Millsboro, DE 19966

On Monday evening, March 26th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle accident on Indian Mission Road in the vicinity of Phillips Branch Road.  It was reported to be a serious motor vehicle accident with possible occupant entrapment.

Emergency response apparatus from Indian River included Ladder 80 from the Oak Orchard area as well as Engines #80-1 and #80-3, and 80 Command from the Long Neck area.  Additional resources included the Sussex County Paramedics, the Delaware State Police Aviation Unit (Trooper #2), the Milton Fire Department Emergency Medical Services Unit, the local EMS provider as well as the Delaware State Fire Police and the Delaware State Police.

Emergency response crew assignments included assistance with patient stabilization, vehicle stabilization, traffic control, preparation measures for vehicle extrication, isolation of the vehicle’s electrical system, and efforts to extricate the occupants.

It appears that a Dodge RAM pick up was traveling on Indian Mission Road and left the roadway striking a cluster of tree causing significant damage to the vehicle and entrapping two occupants of the vehicle.  Emergency responders utilized the vehicle extrication tools to access and remove the occupants of the vehicle.

All occupants were transported to nearby medical facilities.

The Delaware State Fire Police provided traffic control for the duration of the incident.

The Delaware State Police are investigating.
