Story
Just before midnight on April 22, 2008, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a reported fire inside of a manufactured residence that was reported to be extinguished. Upon arrival of our designated duty officer - Captain Minh Nguyen, it was determined to have heavy fire showing from a side residential window. The Sussex County Emergency Operations Center (EOC) was advised to upgrade the alarm to a working structure fire with additional response from Lewes and Millsboro fire departments. Fire suppression crews entered the structure to extinguish the fire, provide roof ventilation and perform overhaul/salvage operations. The occupants of the home required medical attention and were transported to a local medical facility. The Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Company provided stand-by coverage for Indian River’s fire district during this incident. The Office of the State Fire Marshal is investigating the incident.
