IRVFC Responds To MVC - John J Williams Highway

Story
On Tuesday, February 26, 2007, at approximately 15:30 hours, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a motor vehicle collision on John J. Williams Highway east of Long Neck Road. Upon arrival of Chief Steven Deery, it was determined that a vehicle had struck the rear of a utility trailer. The utility trailer was carrying various quantities of diesel fuel, gasoline, and cleaning solvents. The vehcile occupants were out of their vehicles upon arrival of emergency response personnel. One patient was transported by the local ambulance service provider to a local hospital. The Delaware Department of Natural Resources & Environmental Control (DNREC) was notified based upon the extensive leakage of chemicals and flammable liquids from the utility trailer. Firefighters had to establish a dike to prevent the chemicals from entering a nearby storm drains. The Delaware State Police are investigating the incident.
