Story
Just after 3:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 27, 2007, the Indian River, Lewes, and Millsboro Fire Companies were alerted for a reported structure fire on Sussex Drive in Mariners Cove of Long Neck Road. Upon arrival of Chief Steven Deery, it was determined to have a single-wide manufactured home with additions as having a heavy smoke condition from the roof area. It was also determined that the correct address of the incident would be on Pine Drive and not Sussex Drive as reported. Responding emergency apparatus and personnel were assigned to initiate an aggressive interior attack to suppress and extinguish the fire. Firefighters entered the structure and encountered a heavy fire condition towards the rear of the structure. An additional hand-line deployment was required to assist with the aforementioned task. Exterior firefighters on the scene provided ventilation and overhaul assignments. The incident was brought under control in approximately 30 minutes. The Office of the State Fire Marshal is investigating the origin and cause of the incident. There were no civilian or firefighter injuries. The incident responders included Indian River Volunteer Fire Company, Millsboro Fire Company, Lewes Fire Company, Sussex County Emergency Medical Services, Delaware State Fire Police, Delaware State Fire Marshal, and the Georgetown Fire Company to provide a stand-by coverage assignment at our Main Station in Oak Orchard.
