On Monday, October 22, 2007, at 9:43 a.m., the Indian River, Lewes, and Millsboro fire companies were alerted for a reported structure fire at the Long Neck Elementary School. Units arrived on scene to discover a minor smoke condition inside of the structure. All occupants had been quickly evacuated from the building. Firefighters discovered a malfunctioning electrical component in the school’s library. Units remained on scene until all of the residual smoke had been cleared. While operating on the scene, a vehicle collided with a pedestrian in the parking lot. The person that was struck was transported to a local medical facility. There were no firefighter injuries.
