Story
Early Tuesday morning, May 8, 2007, while at a working residential structure fire, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a small woods fire in the vicinity of Holiday Chicken. Chief Deery requested that our stand-by company (Georgetown Fire Company) respond from Station #1 in Oak Orchard and assigned a Engine/Tanker from Station #86 (Rehoboth Beach) respond from the fire scene to the reported woods fire. Initially, the incident was not immediately located because of inadequate directions; however, the responding apparatus identified the incident location and initiated fire suppression techniques for the reported woods fire alarm. Two additional pieces of apparatus from Indian River responded to assist with the incident. The woods fire incident included a fairly sizable parcel of land which was quickly extinquished with the resources assigned to the incident. The incident is pending further investigation to ascertain the origin.
