Story
On Thanksgiving Day, (November 23, 2006) at approximately 12:55 p.m., the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for an incident involving a reported boat overturned and two occupants in the water off the shore of Pot Nets Creekside on Long Neck Road. The volunteer fire company responded with 25 members, two marine units and other apparatus in order to assist with this water related incident. Due the inclement weather conditions and tidal flooding concerns, the decision to launch the marine units from Pot Nets Creekside was amended to utilize the Public Boat Ramps at Massey's Landing near the end of Long Neck Road. Both marine units responded and launched from this location. All emergency response occupants of our vessels were clothed in foul weather gear because of the weather conditions. Upon completion of various search patterns and confirmation with the reporting persons, it was determined that this incident was unfounded and all units were returned to their respective stations. The Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was assisted by the United States Coast Guard during this incident. The fire company was in service for approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes.
