On Monday, August 21, 2006, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a water rescue in the area of Burton Island, Indian River Bay. Marine 1 responded to the area, where one vessel was located approximately 15 feet on to Burton Island. One female occupant was boarded on to Marine 1 and was returned to Massey's Landing. There where no injuries to the occupants. 80 Marine 2 and 80 Marine 3 were underway to assist Marine 1. This incident was under the command of Fire Chief Steven Deery.
