IRVFC Responds to Working House Fire - Heartwood Cove, Pot Nets Lakeside

Story
On Saturday, April 1, 2006, at 3:35 p.m., the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a reported working house fire on Heartwood Cove, Pot Nets Lakeside development off Long Neck Road. Second Assistant Chief Jason Faulkner arrived on location, and reported heavy smoke and fire showing from the exterior of structure. Engines 80-2, 80-5, and Rescue 80 arrived simultaneously. Two 1 3/4 inch fire suppression attack lines were placed in service in order to initiate an aggressive interior attack and fire suppression strategy. Other firefighting crews were utilized to perform a primary search of the residential structure looking for any occupants of the residence. The Millsboro (Sta. #83) and Lewes (Sta. #82) fire companies responded directly to the incident location to provide additional resources. The Milton (Sta. #85) fire company provided a stand-by crew in Oak Orchard for any additional emergency incidents that may be occurred within our immediate fire district. One Indian River firefighter was injured and transported to Beebe Medical Center for evaluation and observation. Thirty-Seven Indian River firefighters were in service for one-hour and thirty-nine minutes. The Delaware State Fire Marshals Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
