On Monday, March 13, 2006, at 10:03 p.m., the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a reported marsh fire. Captain Steven Hawkins arrived on location to find 1/4 acre of marshland involved and spreading. Brush trucks were utilized to quickly extinguish the fire. 31 firefighteres were in service for 58 minutes.
