At 2:21 PM on Saturday, June 25, we were dispatched to Station 83, Millsboro, to stand by at their station as they were assisting Station73, Dagsboro, at a house fire. At 3:06 PM, while we were still at Millsboro, we were dispatched to a brush fire on Walker Lane in our own district. Millsboro had just returned from their call so Engine 80-1 and Utility 80-12 responded from Station 83.
On arrival, we found a brush fire that was headed toward the woods. Quick action by first responding crews kept the fire from spreading. Extinguishing the fire is only the first part of the work at a brush fire. Hose is picked up or repacked, loose tools must be located, and everything cleaned up enough to take it back to the Station. Back at the Station, there is still much work to be done to make the equipment ready for the next call.
Millsboro stood by at our Station 1 while we were tied up on this call. Twenty-four firefighters were in service for two hours and eighteen minutes for this call. Many members were still at the Station for another hour before all of the work was finished.
