Story
At 12:17 PM on Friday, April 15, we were dispatched to assist Station 83, Millsboro, with a brush and woods fire in the Cross Keys area of Millsboro. This was in the same area as the brush fire on Wednesday and the third major brush fire for Millsboro in ten days. Again, we were originally dispatched for a one engine stand-by at Station 83 but this was quickly upgraded to a Brush Truck, Tanker, and Engine assist at the scene. Brush 80-0, Tanker 80-4, and Engine 80-1 responded. First arriving crews were able to stop the wind whipped fire from damaging nearby structures but there were a large number of hot spots that needed to be extinguished. As Tanker 80-4 shuttled water to the scene, the crews of 80-0 and 80-1 attacked the hot spots and 80-1 refilled brush trucks working in the area. Thirty firefighters from Indian River were in service for four hours and twenty-five minutes on this call.
