Nature: Community Service Request – Flag Pole Re-stringing

City: Long Neck

Over the past week and in preparation for the Fourth of July holiday, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company has assisted our community with efforts to re-string flag poles.

These exercises may seem very mundane and irrelevant; however, these requests develop into very meaningful training exercises for apparatus operators and crews that may get very little actual experience on working alarms due to the infrequent nature.

Illustrated herewith are photographs of the crew changing the ropes and re-stringing our flag poles at Indian River’s Station #2.  Keys components of this exercise include ladder placement and operations, aerial operations and rotations, as well as apparatus familiarity with set-up and take-down.
