Story

Nature: Fire House Raising / Expansion Commencement Ceremony

City: Oak Orchard

 

Some 52 years ago, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company hosted a fire house raising ceremony with the firemen and members of the Ladies Auxiliary posing before the cornerstone of the new fire station in Oak Orchard. This ceremony was held on a Friday in Oak Orchard with the anticipation that this construction initiative would double the present size of the current fire house when completed.

Facility Construction and Acquisition

In 1964-1965, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company expanded by doubling its current facility in Oak Orchard from two engine bays to four engine bays. Included are photographs of the event.
