Nature: Service Call-Fire

Location: 28174 Sloop Ave., Millsboro, DE 19966

On Monday, January 23rd, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a service call to assist with a residential evacuation as a result of inclement weather with low to moderate tidal flooding conditions on Sloop Avenue in the Pot Nets Bayside development off of Long Neck Road.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Utility 80-14 (5-ton Army Surplus) and Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility as well as Brush #80-0 from the Long Neck facility. The Delaware State Fire Police also responded to assist with traffic control and other hazardous conditions.

Emergency response crew assignments were to evaluate the conditions of the residential homeowners, assist with evacuation and loading into the 5-ton vehicle for transportation through the water to awaiting vehicles.

It appears that the residential homeowners are new to area and were not aware of the tidal conditions during nor’easter storms. They have obtained accommodations for the evening via nearby shelters or other residential locations.

Illustrated are some photographs of the incident rendering assistance.
