Nature: Vehicle Accident

Location: 24752-24799 Banks Rd Millsboro, DE 19966

On Tuesday afternoon, January 3rd, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle accident on Banks Road near the back entrance to Baywood Greens. It was reported to be a single vehicle versus a telephone pole, fencing, and tree.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine #80-1 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response crew assignments included vehicle stabilization, traffic control, incident mitigation, and notification of the utility provider that a complete pole replacement was needed. The utility pole was smoking do to the high voltage wiring laying on the wood cross supports.

It appears that a gold colored Ford Explorer was traveling on Banks Road attempting to round the curves on a rain slick road and lost control striking and snapping a telephone pole, plowing through fencing and striking a tree. The local emergency medical services provider was attending to the driver of the vehicle.

The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated the roadway closure for the duration of the incident.

The Delaware State Police are investigating.
