On Sunday afternoon, January 1st, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for an appliance fire in Weis’ Market, formerly Food Lion, at the Nanticoke Crossing Shopping Center. It was reported to be an electrical issue that resulted in a small fire.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Tanker 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engines #80-1 and #80-3 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response crew assignment assignments included situational awareness for complete store evacuation, evaluation with area of concern, utilization of a fire extinguisher to mitigate the issue, electrical service disconnection, and assistance with extension evaluation.

It appears that a small refrigerated cooler encountered an electrical issue which caused a small fire that needed to be extinguished.

The electrical service to the unit was disconnected and the maintenance staff was notified.
