Nature: Vehicle Accident Possibly Serious

Location: Long Neck Rd and Bayshore Drive, Millsboro, DE 19966

On Thursday afternoon, October 27th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle accident on Long Neck Road in the vicinity of Bayshore Drive. It was reported serious and the Delaware State Police Aviation Unit (Trooper #2) was alerted as well.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Engine #80-1 from the Long Neck facility, Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police, the Sussex County Paramedics and the local emergency medical service provider.

Emergency response crew assignments included assistance with patient stabilization, vehicle stabilization, traffic control, and preparation for a door pop in order to gain greater access to the patient. It appears that a Pontiac sports car was traveling north on Long Neck Road and lost control for an unknown reason leaving the roadway striking some signage and then a tree causing significant damage to the vehicle and its passenger.

Emergency personnel had to implement extrication measures in order to remove the passenger. Both occupants of the vehicle were transported to nearby medical facilities as the aviation unit was not available.

The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated a complete roadway closure of Long Neck Road for the duration of the incident.

The Delaware State Police are investigating.
