Nature: Water Rescue Priority 2

Location: 26100 Walker Rd Millsboro, DE 19966

On Thursday, September 29th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a water rescue incident involving a vehicle in the water on Walker Road off of Long Neck Road. It was reported to be a single vehicle into a flooded, water filled ditch.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Brush #80-0 from the Long Neck facility and Utility 80-8 and Utility 80-13 as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response crew assignments include incident evaluation, including roadway and surface water issues along Long Neck Road while approaching Walker Road.

It appears that a sport utility vehicle was attempting to transport three persons and one dog to a private residence on Walker Road off of Long Neck Road in a commonly known area to be impacted by tidal flooding conditions. The vehicle did not successful navigate the roadway and ran into a water flooded ditch. Brush #80-0 with first responders donning water submersible clothing made access to the location and assist with extrication of the persons and canine. The vehicle was left for a later time in order to minimize the health and safety impacts to the emergency response personnel.

The Delaware State Police are investigating.
