On Wednesday evening, September 28th, the Indian River (80), and Georgetown (77) fire companies were alerted to assist Millsboro (83) Fire Company with a residential structure fire on Tuscany Drive off of Gravel Hill Road. It was reported to be a working structure fire.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Tanker 80 from the Oak Orchard facility as well as Engines #80-1 and #80-3 from the Long Neck facility.

Emergency response crews assignments were to assist with fire suppression, establish water supply, and coordinate any assistance where needed.

As Indian River units were responding to the Tuscany Drive incident, the Millsboro Fire was alerted for a second working structure fire on Avalon Drive. Indian River’s engines from the Long Neck facility diverted to this incident as well as Georgetown (77) and Milton (85) fire companies. Once cleared the Avalon Woods incident, all units responded to the Tuscany Drive incident.

Additional resources for tanker assist or standby assignments were requested from Dagsboro (73), Gumboro (79), Lewes (82), and Ellendale (75) fire companies as well.  A water shuttle was established in order to supply the fire suppression operations as needed.

The Delaware State Fire Marshall's Office is investigating.
