Nature: Transformer Fire

Location: 28414 Cherokee Av Millsboro, DE 19966

On Friday evening, August 26th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a transformer fire on Cherokee Avenue in Riverdale. It was reported to be an electrical hazard.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Engine #80-5 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine #80-3 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police. The assistance of the Delmarva Power company was requested as well.

Emergency response crews were assigned to mitigation the incident by securing a perimeter free of pedestrians and vehicle traffic pending the arrival of the Delmarva Power Representative.

It appears that an active transformer was leaking and actually on fire causing the electrical hazard.

Once the electricity was disconnected from the device the hazard was eliminated pending replacement or repair via Delmarva Power.

The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control for the duration of the incident.
