Nature: Structure Fire

Location: 35568 North Gloucester Circle Millsboro, DE 19966

On Monday evening, August 15th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a structure fire on North Gloucester Circle within the Fairfield development off of Long Neck Road. It was reported to be grease fire within the kitchen area that has been spread into the cabinetry and has been extinguished by the activation of the residential sprinkler system.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Chief 80-15, Tanker 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine #80-3 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response crew assignments included incident mitigation, ventilation via positive pressure, shut off of all residential electric services, and verification of extensions.

It appears that the residents were attempting to cook with a pot that ultimately boiled over causing a fire to spread into the above cabinetry and activating the residential sprinkler system. The interior of the residential unit suffered fire, smoke and water damage.

The activated sprinklers probably will have the facility deemed uninhabitable for a period of time because water was flowing from the second floor to the ground level via the walls and ceilings.
