Nature: Building Fire

Early Tuesday morning, August 9th, the Indian River (80), Lewes (82), and Bethany Beach (70) fire companies were alerted to assist Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Company with a working structure fire on Coastal Highway in Dewey Beach.

Emergency response units from Indian River was limited to Engine #80-3 from the Long Neck facility. The original incident alert was for a one engine cover assignment at Rehoboth Beach’s Station #2; however, the assignment was upgraded and the apparatus responded to the scene.

Emergency response crew assignments included fire suppression and overhaul assistance as well as manpower pool.

Pursuant to the information provided, it appears that this incident ignited as a result of a vehicle accident.

The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating.

Firefighters from Rehoboth Beach, Lewes, Bethany Beach and Indian River responded to a structure fire at 2110 Coastal Highway in Dewey Beach at 0212 hrs on Tuesday August 9th. The business known as "Ed's Chicken" was heavily damaged after a vehicle heading southbound on Rt.1 jumped the median and ran into the structure located on the corner of Swede's Street. Dewey Beach Police pulled the driver who was uninjured from the vehicle before the fire engulfed the building. Fire units were on the scene for over 2 hours controlling the blaze. No injuries were reported and the Delaware State Fire Marshall and Dewey Beach Police are investigating.
