Nature: Vehicle Accident Possibly Serious

Location: 28211 John J Williams Hwy Millsboro, DE 19966

On Saturday evening, November 14th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle accident on John J. Williams Hwy in the vicinity of Bulls Eye Lane.  It was reported to be a two vehicle accident with heavy entrapment.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility, Engine #80-1 from the Long Neck facility, as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.  Additional emergency response units included Sussex County Paramedics, the Delaware State Police Aviation Unit (Trooper #2), emergency medical personnel from the Millsboro Fire Company, and an additional Rescue from Millsboro.

Emergency response crews were assigned to coordinate immediate scene mitigation, traffic control, vehicle stabilization, patient stabilization, as well as complete roadway closure for east and west bound traffic patterns.  The primary assignment was vehicle extrication due to the heavy entrapment while canceling the aviation unit.

It  appears that a white Toyota Corolla was traveling eastbound and collided with a Nissan Quest mini-van that was traveling westbound.  The Corolla was occupied by a single male while the Nissan was occupied by an adult female with three young children.  The Toyota appears to have crossed the center line for an unknown reason striking the Nissan mini-van head one.  The occupants of the mini-van were transported to nearby medical facilities for additional observations.

The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated the roadway closure assignment pending the arrival of the Delaware Department of Transportation.  A temporary detour was established to allow continuation of traffic patterns for both east and west bound traffic.

The Delaware State Police are investigating.

The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a two vehicle crash that has claimed the life of a 55 year old Millsboro man which occurred late Saturday afternoon.

The investigation has determined that the crash occurred Saturday, November 14, 2015, at approximately 5:23 p.m., as Robin M. Slacum, 55, of Millsboro, DE, was operating a 1997 Toyota Corolla and was traveling in an eastbound direction on John J. Williams Highway (SR24) east of William Street Road, Millsboro. For an unknown reason, the Corolla crossed the center line of the highway and struck the front of a 2013 Nissan Quest, which was being operated by Melissa S. Enck, 34, of Georgetown, DE, and which was traveling westbound on SR24. After the impact, the Toyota spun in a counter clockwise direction and came to rest in the eastbound lane.
