Nature: Medical Emergency

On Thursday evening, November 12th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted to provide assistance for a medical emergency involving a deer hunter off of Cordrey Road, west of Cannon Road.

Emergency response units included Engine #80-1 from the Long Neck facility, Rescue 80, Polaris 80, and Utility 80-8 from the Oak Orchard facility as well the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response crew assignments were to provide assistance with patient stabilization, assist with emergency vehicle access to the incident location, prepare for a landing zoning for incoming aviation units from the Delaware State Police and overall incident mitigation.

Later, during the evening, Indian River was requested to assist DNREC with lighting and ladders to help with the ongoing investigation.

The Delaware State Police and the Delaware Department of Natural Resources are investigating.

Hunting Accident near Millsboro Injures One

Emergency crews were on the scene of a hunting accident last evening east of Millsboro. DNREC is investigating, but Sgt John McDerby tells WGMD a 24 year old hunter was accidentally shot by another hunter with an arrow. The victim was struck in the abdomen – he is in serious but stable condition. McDerby says the two were hunting on private property off Cordrey Road together.

Millsboro Hunter Accidentally Shot with Arrow

One man is injured in a hunting accident near Millsboro.

DNREC says the incident happened Thursday night just before 6 o'clock on private property off Cordrey Road.

DNREC says a 24-year-old unidentified man was accidentally shot in his abdomen by another hunter with an arrow from a compound bow.

No word on the condition of the man injured; although we do know that he was taken to Beebe Hospital.

DNREC is investigating the incident.

Fish & Wildlife Natural Resources Police investigating deer hunting incident with injuries near Millsboro

MILLSBORO (Nov. 13, 2015) – DNREC Division of Fish & Wildlife Natural Resources Police are continuing their investigation into a hunting incident in which a bow hunter’s arrow struck and injured another hunter in the abdomen. The incident occurred at about 5:45 p.m. Thursday on the edge of a farm field near Millsboro.

A 54-year-old hunter in a tree stand shot an arrow from his compound bow that struck the 24-year-old victim on the ground about 30 yards away. The injured man was airlifted to Beebe Medical Center in Lewes by the Delaware State Police Aviation Unit. After he was stabilized, he was airlifted to a Maryland hospital, where he underwent surgery today.

No charges have been filed at this time, according to Sgt. John McDerby, Fish & Wildlife Natural Resources Police.
