The Delaware State Police are currently investigating a serious crash involving a scooter that occurred east of Long Neck Wednesday evening.

Authorities say that around 5:24 p.m. Wednesday September 30, 2015, 35 year-old Kevin Phillips of Millsboro was riding a 2015 Bantam Bashan Sport 50 scooter westbound on the shoulder of John J. Williams Highway (SR24) in the area of Eagle Lane. The scooter ran over some tree branches on the shoulder causing Phillips to lose control. Troopers say the slick road surface due to rain caused the scooter to slide, and it came to a stop in the grass on the north end of the roadway.

Phillips, who was not wearing helmet, was taken to Beebe Healthcare where he is currently admitted in critical condition.

Traffic in the area was impacted for approximately two and a half hours as the crash was investigated and cleared.

Troopers are continuing their investigation into this incident and ask that anyone who may have witnessed the crash to contact Cpl/1 W. Ingram at 302-644-5020 ext. 3309.
