Nature: Vehicle Accident

Location: At The Entrance of Pot Nets Rd Millsboro, DE 19966

On Saturday evening, September 12th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle accident on Long Neck Road at the Pot Nets Bayside entrance road. It was reported to be a single vehicle.

Emergency response units included Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility, Engine #80-1 from the Long Neck facility, as well as the Delaware State Fire Police, the Sussex County Paramedics, ambulance response personnel from nearby facilities including Lewes Fire Department.

Emergency response crew assignments include vehicle stabilization, assist with patient stabilization, scene mitigation, traffic control, as well as scene preservation. Engine #80-1 was requested to initiate stabilization vehicle Rescue 80 was requested to prepare for extrication.

The Delaware State Fire Police were ordered to close Long Neck Road for the duration of the incident and then modified traffic patterns in one direction to permit the accident investigation to commence.

It appears that a red Pontiac Aztek was traveling south on Long Neck Road and did not navigate the curve at the entrance road to Pot Nets Bayside, striking numerous fence, landscaping huts, and tree. The impact caused significant intrusion into the occupant compartment of the vehicle. Emergency apparatus responding were notified of potential impact of two occupants and then notified of pending status of the vehicle’s occupants.

The Delaware State Fire Police were ordered to close Long Neck Road for the duration of the incident and then modified traffic patterns in one direction to permit the accident investigation to commence.

The Delaware State Police are investigating.

The local ambulance service provider transported one of the vehicle’s occupants to nearby medical facilities while the driver was transported via the Office of the State Medical Examiner.

Delaware State Police are investigating a crash that has left a driver dead and a passenger fighting for her life.

The crash happened in the Millsboro area on Pot-Nets Road at Long Neck Road around 11 p.m. Saturday.

That is where officials found a vehicle into a tree at the entrance to Pot-Nets Bayside. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The female passenger suffered critical injuries and was taken by ambulance to Beebe Hospital. Medevac helicopters were not flying because of weather.

The accident is under investigation by the state police crash team.

Man dies in Long Neck Road crash

A Millsboro man died Sept. 12 after police say his car ran off Long Neck Road and crashed into a tree.

Jeffrey W. Bell Jr., 42, was driving a 2001 Pontiac Aztec at 11:04 p.m. eastbound on Long Neck Road approaching Pot-Nets Road when he failed to negotiate a turn in the road and traveled off the south side of the roadway, said Master Cpl. Gary Fournier of the Delaware State Police.

 The Pontiac struck a fence post with the right rear and then quickly rotated clockwise while continuing in a easterly direction, Fournier said. The car struck a large tree on the driver's side where it came to a sudden stop, he said.

Bell was not properly restrained and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Jaime E. Taylor, 37, of Millsboro, was properly restrained and was transported by emergency responders to Beebe Healthcare where she was admitted in critical condition.

Fournier said alcohol involvement is unknown. Long Neck Road at Pot-Nets Road was closed for about three hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
