Early Friday morning, September 4th, the Indian River (80) and Lewes (82) fire companies were alerted to assist Rehoboth Beach (86) with a working commercial structure fire at the Tiki Bar off of Rehoboth Avenue in the Henlopen Junction commercial business area. It was reported to be a working alarm.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Tanker 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine #80-1 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response crew assignments included assistance to Rehoboth Beach manpower and fire suppression resources as well as assisting with incident overhaul and apparatus restocking.

The Millsboro (83) Fire Company provided a stand-by cover up assignment for Indian River during the incident.

The Delaware State Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the incident.

UPDATE: Electrical malfunction causes fire at Rehoboth bar / restaurant

A malfunction with branch circuit wiring causes a fire at the Swell Tiki Bar and Grill on Rehoboth Avenue.

The Delaware State Fire Marshal's office says the blaze broke out shortly after 1:00 a.m. Friday, and drew firefighters from Rehoboth Beach, Lewes, Indian River and Bethany Beach.

Smoke was pouring from the roof and attic areas of the building when firefighters got there.

No one was hurt.

The Swell Tiki Bar and Grill was closed at the time.

Fire damage is estimated at $75,000.
